FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Kimpton Armory Hotel Opens in Big Sky Country

New Hotel Provides Access to Outdoor Adventure and Delivers an Elevated Music Scene

  • Bozeman, Montana – August 18, 2020 – Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants hits a high note with the opening of the new Kimpton Armory Hotel in downtown Bozeman, Montana. Today’s opening marks the boutique hotel company’s first outpost in Big Sky Country. The Armory Hotel experience is inspired by the region’s wide open spaces, outdoor adventures and soulful sounds. Located in the heart of downtown Bozeman as an adaptive reuse of a landmark National Guard Armory building, the 122-room Armory Hotel offers three dining concepts including a rooftop lounge with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains as well as two venues for live performances including a concert hall that promise to elevate the Montana music experience.

“Montana’s natural beauty, pristine outdoor vistas and access to big adventure draw visitors from around the world and the Armory is the perfect complement to this mix,” said Aaron Whitten, general manager of the Kimpton Armory Hotel. “We look forward to welcoming travelers after a day of play outside to relax in a room inspired by nature, but with all of the amenities and special touches one expects of a boutique experience, or to keep the adventure going with our restaurants’ hand-crafted cocktails and mix of upscale, playful cuisine or live entertainment on one of our two stages.”

Originally built in 1941 as a National Guard Armory, the hotel’s design is a true adaptive reuse of the historic structure with the addition of a new tower, both of which honor architect Fred Willson’s original vision. The new tower reflects the Art Deco exterior of the Armory with clean lines and a chevron design found on the historic structure. Freely mixing the raw with the refined, the hotel’s interior offers up a uniquely modern vision of Montana hospitality. The experience is relaxed and informal; organic materials, handcrafted details, rich textures and local artwork come together to create a feeling of warmth, comfort and conviviality. Throughout, the area’s breathtaking natural panorama informs every selection, from the neutral color palette to the subtle glow of the interior lighting.

The hotel’s 122 guestrooms, including 12 suites, offer a sophisticated, approachable design that welcomes with natural materials and local art. The rooms are a handsome expression of stylish sensibility that evokes a modern mountain aesthetic. The clean lines of the guestrooms’ furniture are accented with modern textural touches of traditional western materials like leather, wool and metal, including the felted wool wall pockets, perfect for a travel journal or gear after a day in the field. Guestroom amenities include Frette linens, Atelier Bloem luxury toiletries, complimentary yoga mats and custom art pieces.

    Four Social Experiences, One Location
The Armory also promises four lively social experiences in one location with Fielding’s, Tune Up, Sky Shed and the Armory Music Hall. Executive Chef Mark Musial sets the bar for dining with modern American cuisine at Fielding’s. Inspired by Montana’s landscape and bountiful resources, local ingredients are infused into every menu selection thanks to partnerships with local farms and ranchers such as Wickens Ranch and Daniels Meats & Sausages. Chef Musial’s Angry Trout is bound to get people talking from its preparation to presentation. A delicious take on the state’s famous fish, this unique dish offers a deboned trout braised with white wine and lardons, presented with the tail coming out the fish’s mouth.

Set atop the tallest building in town, Sky Shed rooftop lounge and pool provide spectacular mountain views. Sky Shed is an elevated social experience where guests can soak up the scene and enjoy boozy delights and light bites all year long. Unique indoor and outdoor spaces transform with the seasons, perfect for basking in the sun or getting cozy by the fire. Sky Shed is expected to open in September.

Every good story deserves a soundtrack and the Armory’s is up-tempo and original with two distinct live music spaces. Tune Up, located in the hotel’s basement, is where the potent combination of standout drinks, savory snacks and good-time rock n’ roll energy come together for a uniquely Bozeman bar experience. The cozy whiskey and beer bar is located in the space where the Armory band used to practice and pays homage to its musical roots with regularly scheduled live performances from local and regional touring acts. The bar features a library of whiskey, Montana microbreweries including hometown Bozeman Brewing Company, as well as classic, creative cocktails. Tune Up’s food menu is concise, featuring hearty bar snacks, apt for sharing and snacking yet ample enough to make a meal.

Armory Music Hall is the main stage for headliner concerts featuring nationally-known acts and up-and-coming artists. Originally the National Guard’s gymnasium, Amory Music Hall provides more than 8,000 square feet of unique and flexible space for concerts, groups, weddings and social events for up to 500 guests. Willson’s original Art Deco frieze of spheres and lines adorns the wall over the stage where musicians will perform.

The Armory Music Hall offers floor seating and viewing from the mezzanine balconies allowing for intimacy between audience and musicians. Individual shows, music series and artist in residence programs are planned for the Music Hall allowing visitors several ways to experiences performances in this unique venue space when it opens later this summer.

Mountains of Music – Guitar Loaner Program & Spotify Playlist
For guests inspired to play music themselves, the hotel has partnered with locally owned and operated Music Villa to create the Pick & Play guitar loaner program. Armory has several different types of guitars from electric to acoustic available for use while staying on property. Guests can further connect with the Armory’s music vibe by downloading the hotel’s Spotify playlist featuring artists and songs that embody the wild and untamed spirit of the property from Chris Stapleton to The Doobie Brothers.
