Lake Murray is a 50,000-acre man-made lake located in the Midlands of South Carolina. Operated by SCE&G, it is renowned for striped bass fishing and summer water sports. Anglers can also catch bream, crappie, largemouth bass, and shellcracker. The area features public boat ramps, picnic tables, swimming spots, and a new pedestrian walkway across the dam, offering outdoor fun for the whole family. Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is located just off the Greystone Blvd exit from I-26 near downtown Columbia. The botanical garden is hailed by Horticulture magazine as one of 10 gardens that inspire. The history of S. C. The State House is as colorful as the state itself. Begun in 1851, the original architect was dismissed from duty, & the structure was dismantled due to defective materials. Work on a new structure was begun in 1855 & suspended in 1865 as Sherman's Union Army swept through, leaving its mark on Columbia & the State House. Completed in 1907, the copper-domed granite building today wears six bronze stars to mark hits from Sherman's cannons. Surrounded by monuments & statues.

Built in 1855 to house officers of a military academy the state's governors have lived here since 1868. A recent renovation added 5,000 sq. feet to the mansion. First floor tours include the state dining room, two drawing rooms, the library and the smaller palmetto dining room, all furnished with period antiques. Admission is free. Tours are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 am, 10:30 am, 11:00 am. Gardens hours are weekdays 9am to 5pm. except on holidays. Tours by appointment.
